Disney Assignments

The Disney Genre (assignment 1)

I think Disney can be classified as a genre in itself. With the influences of fairytale and animation is what Disney has. Always with a positive ending and always leaving audiences with the 'happily ever after effect'. I guess because the industry is mainly designed for children they feel they need to keep the innocence and good in the world for the children as long as possible.

The origins for the majority of Disney films are historically based stories. E.g. 'Poccahontis' was based on a true story, however it like the rest has been disneyficated, providing only the good parts of the reall story not the bad parts.

Walt Disney and the Disney vision (Assignment 2)

I think the Disney vision and the reality of Disney Resort Paris does meet the vision. I think if the vision was to create something that could blow your imagination, create things you've never seen before and bring out the innocent child in you again it has definately done that in my opinion.

'Mad Hatter's Tea Cups'
This ride is more obviously aimed at young children and possibly their parents. A very safe but fun ride with music and a reputation specifically to be aimed at childen.

'Rock 'n' Roller Coaster'
This was my personal favourite and considering I'm a teenager/young adult I think this is the audience they were aiming it at. It's a big, fast roller coaster themed by a rock band, all the ingredients to make a general ride to cater to its audience who enjoy fast thrills and rock 'n' roll.

'Indiana Jones'
This ride could be for a number of people as it's a roller coaster but also with an adventurous theme that would appeal to all, and considering the ride showed to let all people on it didn't discriminate because of age etc.

Representations and Realism (Assignment 3)

The influence of Disney on society has been more positive than negative in many respects when looking at it as a passive audience they look as if they can do no wrong. The 'magic' it offers to people all around the western world is phonomonal bringing dreams to reality and providing people with a joy that would be experienced for all. However, when putting many more questions to the organisation such as why are all the main characters in their films 'white' and how can they be doing any good for children by covering the truth for children, society must decide whether Disney really is a place of magic and dreams or a racist orgainsiation promoting strong messages. This is just a hunch, either way I personally like Disney.

'The Ugly Duckling' is a character that may appeal to those who feel less confident about themselves and represent to those identifying that they are not alone, giving comfort.

'Cinderella' is an aspirational character that many can identify with, going from rages to riches. Something many can identify with coming from a hard past to get through it and live 'happily ever after'.

'Prince Charming' for women to look to for a good man. To be a gentleman who can take care of them if need be is what every woman wants and someone men can aspire to to treat women better.

You as the audience (Assignment 6)
